چکیده

The new oral direct thrombin inhibitor ximelagatran is at least equivalent to warfarin for stroke prevention in patients with non-valvar atrial fibrillation, and seems to be a promising adjunct to aspirin after acute coronary syndrome

Survival of heparins, oral anticoagulants, and aspirin after the year 2010.

The conventional management of thrombotic and cardiovascular disorders is based on the use of heparin, oral anticoagulants, and aspirin. Despite remarkable progress in life sciences, these drugs still remain a challenge and a mystery to us, and their use is far from optimized. The development of low-molecular-weight heparins and the synthesis of heparinomimetics, such as the chemically synthesi...

Beyond unfractionated heparin and warfarin: current and future advances.

Anticoagulants are widely used by cardiologists. Unfractionated heparin (UFH) and coumarins were discovered more than 60 years ago, and for more than 40 years, they have been the sole anticoagulant drugs available to clinicians.1,2 Now, in 2007, several new anticoagulants have been introduced, and many more are under clinical development. Will these new anticoagulants replace the established dr...

Suppression of hemostatic system activation by oral anticoagulants in the blood of patients with thrombotic diatheses.

RIAs for hemostatic system activation were employed to study patients who were anticoagulated with warfarin. The mean prothrombin fragment F1 + 2 concentration in stably anticoagulated individuals without an inherited thrombotic diathesis (mean prothrombin time [PT] ratio [PT of patient/PT of normal plasma pool] = 1.74) was 0.231 nM as compared with a mean plasma F1 + 2 level of 1.68 nM for a n...

Familial thrombosis due to antithrombin 3 deficiency.

A large kindred from eastern Kentucky, with extensive history of recurrent venous thrombasis and pulmonary embolism, was studied. Low antithrombin III titers, ranging from 26% to 49% of normal values, were found in plasma of nine members in three consecutive generations; another five members, four of whom were not available for study, are suspected of having the biochemical defect. There was a ...

Edoxaban Was Effective for the Treatment of Deep Vein Thrombosis and Pulmonary Thromboembolism in a Cancer Patient with Antithrombin III Deficiency

A 57-year-old man with antithrombin III deficiency with deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary thromboembolism after surgery for colon cancer was managed with warfarin and inferior vena cava filtration. After starting chemotherapy for liver metastasis, the control of his prothrombin time-international normalized ratio in response to warfarin began to fluctuate. Warfarin was changed to edoxaban (an ...
